5/8/08: Buckshot @ Club Polaris

Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Buckshot aka the BDI Thug @ Club Polaris(9th and Willow) here in Philadelphia last night. Buckshot was the headliner for the ThorTakeover record label launch party. Duck Down has proven to be one hell of a success story. As an Independent label, they've managed to remain relevant while the music industry is knee deep in it's darkest time. Recently, 9th Wonder and Buckshot released "The Formula" which has made noise on the Hip-Hop/R&B Charts. I managed to exchange words with Shucky Ducky and No Ha(Duck Down's Promotional Director). No Ha broke it down to me about Duck Down's longevity and the importance of consistency within the music business. Congrats to Kidz in the Hall for being placed on TRL's countdown. I caught Buckshot attempting to do a trick on a skateboard in the parking lot behind the club. I congratulated him on his success, we talked about the collaborative effort that he and 2Pac had planned on releasing. He left me with a quote that I will never forget.

"Something as small as the sun can light up the whole universe" - Buckshot

He ran through his set with ease. He ripped a few selections from "The Formula as well as many of his classics. Those who were in attendance showed their love for this icon by chanting along with the lyrics and nodding their heads in unison. The art of emceeing is alive and well in the underground hip-hop scene. Like the BDI Thug said many Black Moons ago "Shit Iz Real".
