I Found Forever...Let's Start The Show!

I didn't anticipate this. Not like I didn't want this to happen but I just didn't expect it. Time flies when your living a cycle of eating, sleeping, working, eating, and once again sleeping. One day, I was surprised to find out that Common "Chi-town's Nas" had dropped a few bangers. To be honest, when I first heard "The Game" I was coaxed into digging it based on Com's lyrics and delivery, the beat had to grown on me and we eventually developed a symbiotic relationship. The beat bangs hard and the devastation is made even more blatant by the scratches of the Legendary DJ Premier. Next, I got twisted up by "The People" which to me was a call to arms for all the real hip-hop heads. Of course, we'd find disagreements over him saying " he found the new Premo", but if the Gangstarr founder had no ill words towards that statement then all is well. So far, two singles...A-

Next, me being the internet snoop that I am, I stumbled across "Misunderstood", "Southside", and an unfinished version of "U, Black Maybe". Each one was special in it's own right. My favorite though, was "U, Black Maybe" due how the Syreeta sample was forged into such a powerful anthem relaying the message of Knowledge of self.

"I heard a white man's yes/Is a black maybe/I was delivered into this world as a crack baby"

The opening line has such meaning to it, I had to take it back like Funk Flex on the wheels of steel. "Misunderstood" had the similar feel and Nina Simone's voice mixed with the lyrics of Lonnie Lynn equals timeless music. People accused old boy of being soft, but there is nothing harder than being honest in face of adversity. "Southside" is just that gridiron rider music that you and your people can nod your head with some aggression but at the same time show and love the contributions that Midwest has made to the game. 3 joints... A +

You see, I'm man enough to admit when I like songs about women. "I Want You" produced by Will.i.am and "So Far To Go" produced by the great J. Dilla are instant stand outs on this Kanye-esque LP. Both of these songs put me in the zone to make love not war ya dig. These cuts.... A + +

"Start the Show" is a hell of a way to bring in an album, "Driving Me Wild" featuring Lily Allen preaches the usual themes of self awareness and understanding the value of self love. "Breaking my Heart" finds Lonnie keeping it truthful about his views on commitments, and as men we all can relate. Last but not least, "Forever Begins" sort of affected me when I wasn't feeling right mentally. This song came out as a tribute to J. Dilla, a great but overlooked producer who passed away due to Lupus on February 10, 2006, three days after his 32nd birthday. Like Bilal sings on the hook, "First your living, then your gone". This album will last in my mind as one of the best albums of 2007. I am thankful for this album, due to the dark times we live in, this LP shines a light to help guide those who can't find their way.
