Freaknik: The Musical.... Yeah, I Already Know

Every morning after I settle into my desk in front of my energy-draining dual monitor computer screens, I'll visit Steve Harvey's website to tune into his morning show for a few hours for entertainment purposes. The jokes keep me from falling asleep as it usually takes me awhile to get adjusted to the work day even after all these years of being an employed (just shows you how much I LOVE that job). Well Monday morning provided something that world clutter my brain for the next few days: T-Pain's animated special Freaknik: The Musical. I saw someone mention Freaknik briefly on Twitter on Sunday-the night of the premiere-but I paid it no attention. But after hearing Steve Harvey's scathing response I knew that I had to watch the show for myself to form my own opinion and that's just what I did.

Peter Hadar "Full Time Lover"

Peter Hadar- Full Time Lover from Peter Hadar on Vimeo.

Peter Hadar is a great artist. More so a "Great" in the making. His last offering, Well Dressed For The Art Show, was a great exploration of vocals mixed with production a la electronica. This is the latest single from his collaborative project with Creative Control entitled Take Off Victoria. I'm looking forward to this project.

Pyramid TV Interviews RJD2

The good people over at Pyramid TV interviewed one of Hip-Hop's most eclectic and respected producers RJD2. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting/running into RJ a few times in the city. The interview covers his recent release, The Colossus, as well as the difficulties of running a music label in 2010, why he chose to start his label (RJ's Electrical Connections), and his weapons of musical composition.

Props to PyramidTV

Nicki Minaj Will Succeed Where Lil Kim Failed

She's more than just eye candy. Nikki Minaj has serious work ahead of her if she indeed wants to have longevity in the monstrous soul devourer that is the music industry. For minute, let's consider the relationship Hip-Hop has had with female emcees/rappers over the last decade. We've had a few standout characters like Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim, Remy Ma, Trina, Da Brat, Jacki-O, Rah Digga and maybe a few others BUT they all succumbed to the affliction known as the "fall off" disease. This "fall off" is usually attributed to the waning popularity of their respective crews. Junior Mafia? Flipmode Squad? Terror Squad? Slip-N-Slide All Stars? I may need to call Nas for another "Where Are They Now?" remix.

Rap in the 90's: Queen Latifah "Just Another Day"

This is one of my favorite songs from the "golden era". Queen Latifah was the illest of all female emcees back in that time period.

Drake "Over" and A Question?

So this is Drake's New Single huh? Ok, Ok I see what's going on and for a first single this isn't too shabby in fact it's pretty live BUT is it all that YOU expected? Does the single give the upcoming album an even greater buzz or are you just tired of waiting?

Estelle Preaches To The Choir With "Freak"

She says that every girl should embrace her inner freak and I support this philosophy. And if you don't like my interpretation you can uh... kick rocks! LOL but seriously this song is ill and the homie Kardinal Offishall goes hard as usual.

The Revolution Remains Untelevised...

Nothing has changed. Ok so we have a new president of a very distinct heritage but the government still operates as before. Though we maintained our civil rights the prejudicial ways that oppressed many people in the past still exist but it's not as prevalent or should I say not as visible as it once was. I'm no physicist and my knowledge of the space-time continuum pretty much halts at Back to The Future 2 but I feel like everything is the same. Everything remained raw. The level of ignorance in this country is astounding and it seems to have increased in recent years. I'm thankful for the advances in technology but at the very same time appalled by how it has handicapped the already intellectually disabled.

I Get Around: Orange Line Philly Website Launch Party

Last Saturday night, I attended the Orange Line Philadelphia website party at Strongbox, a small club located in the Center City section of the City of Brotherly Love. LP, the company's founder, informed me sometime ago about the direction of Orangeline, stating that it would be a website to assist the fashion forward in their search of quality streetwear, sneakers, etc. The party was pretty dope and I ran into more than a few of the usual suspects that I'm known to associate with whenever I'm midnight marauding. I snapped a few photos and enjoyed a few Heinekens. Life's good
